With the departure from the diocesan staff of Canon Martha Hubbard, who has accepted a new call in Albany, N.Y., the bishops have announced that Canon Greg Perez will be transitioning from the diocese's Central Region to serve as the regional canon for the Northern and Western Region beginning Sept. 1.
Given the increasing vitality of Spanish-speaking congregations, many of which are located in the northern part of the diocese, it is hoped that Canon Perez can offer additional connection and support to them as well as to all the congregations in the Concord River, Mystic Valley, Merrimack Valley and North Shore deaneries that comprise the Northern and Western Region.
The search for a new regional canon for the Central Region, which includes the Alewife, Boston Harbor, Charles River and Neponset River deaneries, will be underway soon. The position description and application process will be available beginning Sept. 4, on the Transition Ministry webpage and via the FYI newsletter.
During the search, Canon Kelly O’Connell, who serves the Southern Region, will be supporting the Boston Harbor and Neponset River deaneries, and Canon Perez will continue his ministry with the Alewife and Charles River deaneries.
