The Living Church: Telling the story of our first deaconesses

A healthy dose of curiosity and a love of research has led a deacon to uncover information that revises accepted Episcopal Church history.

Prompted by her dedication to the diaconate, the Rev. Daphne B. Noyes, deacon at the Church of the Advent in Boston, researched the life and ministry of Adeline Blanchard Tyler — Civil War nurse, teacher and one of the four original deaconesses in the Episcopal Church.
