The Rev. Edward M. Cardoza began serving our diocese on a part-time basis as missioner for property stewardship in September 2020.  Since that time, he has provided counsel to congregations throughout the diocese regarding property maintenance and development, along with overseeing matters relating to diocesan-owned and closed church properties.

Among many other responsibilities, he has helped complete the renovation of the rectory of St. Mark’s Church, Dorchester as a residence for Life Together fellows, and coordinated the successful sale of 40 Prescott Street in Brookline, a former site for Life Together and campus ministry at Boston University. He has been the primary staff liaison for the ongoing restoration of the property of St. John St. James Church in Roxbury, including the restoration of St. Luke’s Chapel, designed by Ralph Adams Cram. He is also overseeing the restoration of St. Luke’s and St. Margaret’s Church, Allston and, along with an executive committee appointed by Bishop Alan M. Gates, envisioning new collaborative ministry at that site which will include office and meeting space for the Anglican-Episcopal Community of Learning at Boston University; an intentional community in residence; and new worshiping communities. Ed  serves as staff liaison to our Real Estate Advisory Committee and Property Development Committee.

It is evident that these projects and others that lie ahead of us will require the attention and expertise of a full-time missioner.  We are grateful that Ed has agreed to take on this work full-time work on an interim basis, with the goal of completing projects that are in process and continuing to advise our churches on property matters.  In the coming months, we anticipate searching for a full-time missioner for property stewardship who will continue this important work.
