Bishop Alan M. Gates made the following announcement on Oct. 16 regarding reorganization of the diocesan staff.
The reconfiguration of staff to align with new budgetary realities and with aspects of our mission strategy will include creation of several new positions, and with an ending to certain other current positions.
The position of human resources manager is ending. Cindy Cushman, who has ably served in that position, will be leaving our staff on Oct. 27. Effective immediately, we are entering into a contract with Northpoint Human Resources Consulting, whose president, Fred Ritzau, will be available to diocesan staff and congregational leadership. Fred is familiar with our staff and diocese, having served as an HR consultant with us previously. He may be reached by phone at 617-678-9010 or by e-mail at fritzau@northpointhr.com.
The position of coordinator of congregational property will end effective Dec. 15. Steve Pierce, who has served our diocese faithfully in several capacities over the past 20 years, will no longer be a part of our staff, but we have already expressed to him our desire to avail ourselves of his expertise as a consultant from time to time with parishes that are in the process of closing, merging or exploring new forms of ministry.
Three new regional canons will be hired in 2018 to serve in north and western, central, and southern areas of our diocese. Their responsibilities will include, among others, transition ministry and congregational leadership development in their respective regions.
Accordingly, the position of director of transition ministry will end once the regional canons are on board, which we imagine to take place in early summer. The Rev. Dr. Jean Baptiste Ntagengwa will conclude his service in this position. However, I am pleased to report that he will subsequently assume the new position of canon for immigrant and multicultural ministries.
The position of director of congregational resources and training will end March 31, 2018, when a new position of director of networking and training will begin. The Rev. Karen Montagno will conclude her tenure as the former at that time.
The position of canon for congregations will also be phased out with the advent of the three regional canons. The Rev. Canon Libby Berman will remain in her position while she guides the design and implementation of the new regional canon model and in its early months before concluding her tenure.
We extend our deep gratitude to all who have served our diocese so faithfully in their respective positions, and ask God's blessings on them and on us all as we journey forward.
Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. Alan M. Gates
