The Church of St. Luke/San Lucas (201 Washington Avenue) in Chelsea, at the request of the El Salvadoran Consulate in Boston, will host the consulate's official commemoration of the 32nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Archbishop Oscar Romero on Saturday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Bishop Gayle E. Harris will be the celebrant, with the Rev. Edgar Gutierrez-Duarte, Vicar of St. Luke's/San Lucas, preaching and the Rev. Ricardo Avila, Urban Resident at St. Mary's Church in Dorchester, assisting. A reception and presentation about Romero's life will follow the service, in the church hall. All are welcome.
"This will be the first of a number of celebrations and important for St. Luke's/San Lucas as we welcome the whole Salvadoran community," Gutierrez-Duarte said.
The day will do double duty, he said, as St. Luke's/San Lucas members also will use the occasion to meet with partners from St. Paul's Church in Lynnfield to plan a joint mission trip to El Salvador.
