It’s a startling number. Of the 1.3 million unaccompanied homeless youth in the United States, between 20 and 40 percent identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning.
Given their large numbers and discrimination they face, a youth group at St. Stephen’s in Lynn called BE YOU has transformed the art installation on its lawn representing teen homelessness to one representing homeless LGBTQ teens, as the Massachusetts State Legislature considers whether to fund a new act promoting and supporting services for unaccompanied homeless youth.
