Elected
The Rev. Julia E. Whitworth was elected 17th bishop diocesan of the Diocese of Massachusetts on the fourth ballot. To secure election, a nominee needed to receive a majority of votes in both the clergy and lay orders on the same ballot. Bishop-elect Whitworth secured election on the fourth ballot, receiving 118 clergy votes and 155 lay votes, with 110 and 146 needed, respectively, for election.
Notification has been received of consent to the election from a majority of The Episcopal Church’s diocesan bishops and a majority of its dioceses via their Standing Committees. The bishop-elect’s consecration is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Trinity Church in Boston.
