On Feb. 28, a group of teens and adults from All Saints Parish and Church of Our Saviour participated in City Reach, an overnight program that enables housed people to learn firsthand about homelessness from people who have experienced it. City Reach takes place several times each year at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, the headquarters of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts in Boston. At the end of February, more than 100 people from eight different churches took part in the program.
City Reach is staffed by one Christian clergyperson and 15 homeless (or recently homeless) men and women. The staff people began the evening by telling the group how they became homeless. Then they took City Reach participants out onto the streets for 1 1/2 hours to show them where people are living outdoors or in shelters.
