On May 12, Life Together, the young adult fellowship program in the Diocese of Massachusetts, hosted “Love Matters," a silent auction and dinner at All Saints Parish in Brookline. The event brought supporters from all over Massachusetts, and as far as New Jersey, who are invested in developing the next generation of prayerful and prophetic leaders.
About 80 guests attended the event; 20 fellows and staff members served as hosts. The event raised about $26,500--surpassing the event goal of $25,000.
Highlights of the night included remarks by Dan Gelbtuch, founder of the Youth Jobs Coalition and the director of Dorchester Bay Youth Force, and the Rev. Noah Evans, Rector of Grace Church in Medford. Both spoke about how Life Together fellows have enlivened and improved their communities. Jason Long, Managing Director of Life Together, and the Rev. Jeff Mello, Rector of St. Paul’s Church in Brookline, served as the emcees for the evening.
Current Life Together fellows, along with running the registration table and silent auction and serving food, contributed much heart and soul to the evening. Amy Jones opened with a rousing rendition of “This Little Light of Mine.” Sofia Snow shared her spoken-word poetry to much applause. Hazel Johnson spoke about the impact Life Together has had for her and the community in Lynn where she works, for the organizing group ECCO (Essex County Community Organization).
Life Together community members extend their gratitude to all who attended the event as well as to donors who contributed from afar, with special thanks to the Rev. David Killian and All Saints Parish in Brookline for providing a space for the event, and to The Supper Shop for catering.
Proceeds will go toward the health insurance and living stipends of the 2012-2013 class of Life Together fellows.
