The Cathedral Church of St. Paul has launched a new podcast called “Sacred Time.” The half-hour program is modeled after the cathedral’s former radio broadcast, “Sunday Morning at the Cathedral,” which was discontinued when its on-air home, WCRB-FM, was bought by WGBH last year. At the time it was ranked second in greater Boston for its time slot, with approximately 15,000 listeners.
Each week, the “Sacred Time” podcast will feature sermons by the cathedral’s clergy and other notable preachers, prayer, readings from Scripture and literature and music performed at the cathedral by its choirs and other groups.
The program will aim to be “inclusive and progressive,” according to a cathedral announcement, in keeping with the cathedral’s mission to be a house of prayer for all people.
“When our radio broadcast was discontinued last December we worked hard to find another home for it, but we were unsuccessful. My hope is that most of our radio listeners will be able to make the transition from radio to Internet and that we will pick up other listeners who may have been shut out before by the fixed time and day of our broadcasts. The beauty of the podcasts is that people can download and listen at a time and place that is most convenient for them,” the cathedral’s dean, Jep Streit, said.
Each week’s “Sacred Time” podcast is available midday on Fridays—and the entire podcast series at any time—via www.stpaulboston.org or as a free download from iTunes. Podcast links are also posted on the cathedral’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
