The country of Haiti is alive with great beauty and warm people. Integrated into this vitality, however, are some stark realities: 80 percent of Haitian people live below the poverty line, and the nation is still working to overcome the effects of devastating natural disasters and a history of violence and instability. Since Haiti is so close to the U.S., many Americans travel to this Caribbean country that shares an island with the Dominican Republic.
Some of our parishes have a one-to-one relationship with an Episcopal parish and/or school in a community, while others partner with local NGO’s. Still others come to network meetings on their own; their parish may not have mission work in Haiti, but they have a personal connection. Sharing joys and concerns as well as information is the objective of the Haiti Network.
The following congregations maintain relationships in Haiti. Collaborative partners from the diocese are listed below the lead grant recipient. These partnerships have led to partner-initiated projects focused not only on building relationships and sharing faith, but also on supporting and improving access to education, trade and nursing schools, medical care and economic development. Each entry represents a distinct grant, with collaborative partners from our diocese listed below the lead grant recipient.
