The Prison Ministry Resources Committee

“I was in prison, and you visited me.”
-Matthew 25:36

These words of Jesus are addressed to all Christians, priests and laity alike. Prisoners have a special place in the Christian imagination. Jesus not only talked about prisoners and how our actions toward them are really acts (or inaction) that directly touch him. Jesus was himself a prisoner, as were his most influential followers, Peter and Paul. Christianity is a religion founded by individuals in deep trouble with the law, people familiar with prison. Prison ministry is one way to enter more actively into the lives of prisoners, who are the most vulnerable, marginalized, and forgotten of our society, and to be transformed in the process.

The Prison Ministry Resources Committee of the Diocese wants to offer you the opportunity to learn more about prison ministry, both for yourselves and your congregations. Committee members have firsthand experience with excellent programs that provide meaningful entry points for prison ministry.
