It's not to soon to sign up for summer!
Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference CenterTired of sloshing through March's slush and bluster?  Take heart!  While many of us can only dream of summer, the folk at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center in Greenfield, N.H., are actively working on it.

Summer camp registration is now open, with specialty art, horseback riding and mountain adventure programs added to the schedule of traditional week-long and day camp sessions that run between June 29 and Aug. 9.  Plus, families of all shapes and sizes will head to camp June 27-29 for the diocesan Family Weekend Experience, while young singers will gather to make music and new friends at Choir Camp (now in its 16th year!) Aug. 3-9.

With a reputation for outstanding staff, excellent facilities and a fun, challenging program, the camp offers numerous opportunities for young people to experience summer camp at its best.

Climate change update: two bills to go before State Legislature
Bishop Bud Cederholm is working with the Massachusetts Interfaith Climate Action Network (MICAN) to get legislation passed in Massachusetts to fight global warming. "Our sacred scriptures call us to serve and protect what God has created, " Cederholm said when asked why he has committed himself to this cause.

As Earth Day (April 22) approaches, two bills, S. 534 and H. 4373/ S. 2457, are before the State Legislature that promote a transition to safe, clean and renewable energy in the Commonwealth, with a focus on high energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy.

Cederholm is encouraging all to join him in supporting these bills by signing the "Interfaith Pledge for Climate Action."  The pledge is available for download at the MICAN website, mican1.wordpress.com.  Signed pledges should be mailed to: Massachusetts Interfaith Climate Action Network, c/o The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, 138 Tremont Street, Boston, MA 02111.
"One LED if by land?"
Historic Old North Church is going high tech; strips of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are replacing the less efficient incandescent lights in the sanctuary.

These follow a replacement two years ago of the incandescent lamps in the tower by modern compact fluorescent bulbs.

"Lessons in Leadership from the Early Church"
St. Stephen's Church in Lynn invites individuals and church teams to gather for a day of reflection, prayer and conversation about leadership.  As a prelude to his soon-to-be-published book, Bishop M. Thomas Shaw, SSJE will offer three meditations on leadership issues inspired by his study of the New Testament and by the life of the diocese.  The leadership retreat takes place on Saturday, April 12, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Money raised over the cost of the program will support the Building a New America (BANA) Fellows from St. Stephen's Church in Lynn, La Iglesia de Gracia in Salem and St. Andrew's Church in Marblehead.  The BANA Fellows are teens from those communities who have been meeting since July to learn about and address race and class issues.
