Soprano Emily Mitchell will present “Girlhood, Womanhood, Wifehood, Motherhood: A Recital for Mother’s Day,” an hour-long concert of favorite showtunes, on Sunday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Bedford, to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
The recital will feature songs from Camelot, Avenue Q, Company, and other Broadway shows from the 1950s through the present. In honor of Mother’s Day, the songs touch on common themes and moments in a woman’s life: falling in love, falling out of love, getting married, and having children.
A $10 suggested donation will be collected at the door. All proceeds will benefit the ACS’s upcoming Relay for Life, to be held at the Bedford High School track on May 17-18. A team of high school youth and parents from St. Paul’s will be participating in the Relay.
Emily Mitchell is a senior editor at Charlesbridge Publishing in Watertown, and currently serves as the junior warden at St. Paul’s Church in Bedford. She has sung with the Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum, the Mississippi Valley Chorale, and the Holden Camerata. Emily will be accompanied by pianist Catherine Grant of Belmont.
